ROCKPORT HAPPENINGS!

DINNER & A MOVIE:
Join us on Saturday, April 26th at 6pm for dinner and 6:30pm for the movie Cabrini by Angel Studios.  This movie is based on the inspiring true story of a woman’s fight for humane treatment, better living conditions, and increased compassion for immigrant orphans.  Sign-up sheet is posted or online.  Hope you will join us!

THE CHURCH OFFICE
will be closed from April 28th through May 2nd.  Messages will be checked daily and if there is a pastoral emergency, please call Pastor Don on his cell,
440-391-9823.

THE ROCKPORT MEN’S GROUP
(is not just for men, women are invited too!)
will meet on Thursday, May 8th at 6:30 pm for a potluck dinner and a presentation by Chris Lotenero and Peg Shumate titled Rescuing Your Space and Mind by Decluttering.  Chris and Peg are cancer survivors who discovered that taking care of “stuff” takes time and can take away from the mental and physical energy needed to focus on health, family, and jobs. They will pass along what they learned in their process of decluttering. Everyone is invited to come and hear this informative presentation by Chris and Peg. Come and enjoy this special time together.

A CLOSEUP LOOK AT ROCKPORT ENDOWMENTS:
Rockport had $861,490 in our Endowments at year end.  The meaning of an Endowment means that these funds are not to be spent (the term is called Restricted).  However, the income generated by these Endowment funds are allowed to be used by the church.  Instead of figuring out the actual earnings every year, your Church Council has voted to withdraw  5% per year thinking that this is the average earnings over the good and not so good years.  For 2025, the 5% earnings amount is $29,136.  These earnings are distributed by the amount of funds in our various Endowments which are Trustees, Education, Missions, Worship, Audio/Visual, Perpetual and Parsonage. The earnings from the Perpetual Endowment Fund ($16,535 for 2025) are put in our operating budget.  The other earnings except for the parsonage are held in a designated fund until the various church committees need the money such as Trustees receiving $9,822 which will be held in the Trustees Designated account until they need it for a church maintenance project.  The earnings from the Parsonage Endowment Fund gets allocated to the other funds since the parsonage funds need to just stay even with what was put there when we sold the parsonage.  The Parsonage Endowment Fund of $278,773 is not allowed to be used by our congregation until after February 2027.  Per the United Methodist rules, a church selling their parsonage must hold the funds for a required amount of time until the funds are allowed to be used.  Jim Spallino chairs our Endowment Committee so please ask him or me any questions that you might have on our endowments.
Respectively, Diana Leitch, Finance Chair

Book Synopsis:  The pastor of one of today’s most dynamic churches illumines the basic principles of attracting the unchurched to the Christian message. Using the story of Bob, a successful swimsuit salesman whose business takes a turn for the worse when he moves to Alaska, Adam Hamilton reminds us that all of life is about sales. Whether we are in a job interview, a candidates’ debate, or a classroom, we are selling something: our skills, our convictions, our selves. The same is true of presenting the gospel to the unchurched. In leading a friend to a saving relationship with Christ, in inviting them to join us at church, we are presenting them with something that we believe they need, that will make all the difference in their life.

BOTTLE CAPS!
The Youth Group are collecting bottle caps for a mission project. The plastic kind - for example, 2 liter and 16/20/24 oz bottles.
During these past weeks we have been asking you, the congregation, to collect bottle caps, and we are providing the boxes to collect them with to make it easier. (courtesy of Dave Stephan! THANK YOU!) You can grab one on your way out of the church on the Christian Ed table in the hallway…   We have been asking to collect these caps in order to create our own bench, fully from the caps we have collected. This bench will signify how recycling can be seen and the process. This bench will be placed in a chosen location on the church grounds.  Along with these recycled caps, we will also accept donations to use towards the processing of the caps to the bench. Through our collective efforts we will eventually have a product that can be enjoyed by everyone.
You can find the acceptable caps and lids list posted on the table with the boxes, and also above. We will be collecting THROUGH MAY! Thank you!
