SPIRITUAL HEALING SERVICE:
The Bible affirms spiritual healing.

"Are any among you sick? They should call the elders of the church and have them pray for them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord" (James 5:14).

The Bible clearly calls disciples to pray with and for one another, and this faithful ministry of touch with prayer pleads and performs (enacts) the grace of God. This touch bridges alienation, swallows’ isolation, breaks suffering, and opens discouraged human spirits.

Pastor Don, Barb Davis and Tina Berardi will be conducting a healing service August 27, 2023 at 11:15 am after the 10 o’clock worship service in the Sanctuary.

Services of healing are not services of curing. Rather they "provide an atmosphere in which healing can happen." All healing is God's work, and worship settings where God encounters people are intrinsically healing.

When people are hurting, and when there is an invitation to share the pain, people respond. It is very natural and an act of hope in God. The ritual practices of healing prayer in the context of worship do not embarrass or expose people. United Methodist healing services use a simple sacramental approach to healing that expresses compassion, hope, grace, and a quiet confidence in God. There we can bring our insufficiencies to the all-sufficient Christ, who understands our need for wholeness.

Anyone who is interested is invited to attend and partake or just observe.

MEN’S GROUP:

“MAKING SENSE OF THE BIBLE”:
Join us Wednesdays for five weeks from August 9th through Sept. 6thfrom 6:00-7:30pm for our next study, “Making Sense of the Bible” by Adam Hamilton.  Light dinner from 6-6:30 and study from 6:30-7:30pm, outdoors on the patio (weather permitting). The book begins with foundational questions such as, How and when was the Bible written? Who decided which books made it into the scriptures and why? How literally must we read it? And is the Bible ever wrong?  Please sign-up on the chapel hallway bulletin board or call/email the church.

ROCKPORT MUSIC MINISTRY:
Psalm 150 proclaims “…everything that has breath give praise to the Lord!” The choir supports and enhances worship. Music inspires fellowship together. Music expresses things that we are unable to express in words alone.

On Tuesday, September 5, 2023 choir rehearsals resume from 6:00-7:20pm. Please join us in singing and fellowship as we prepare for Sunday worship.  Any questions, call Susan Shick, Music Director/Organist at home, 440-331-5718 (H), or email, ershick@prodigy.net.

BOOK CLUB:
Our next book discussion will be on Monday, Sept. 11th @ 7:00pm on the church patio.  The book we will be reading is “The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell” by Robert Dugoni. This is a coming-of-age novel chronicling the life of protagonist Sam Hill, who is born with a genetic condition causing his irises to appear red.  From his early years, Sam faces ostracization and bullying, but his deeply Catholic mother insists the condition is God’s will. Hope to see everyone on Sept. 11th for fun, fellowship and discussion.

ADULT BIBLE STUDY Beginning this Fall! WEDNESDAYS at 7 p.m.
BEGINNING ON SEPT. 13TH!
Join us for a 9-week course taught by Jim Spallino, that is a short-term study out of the Disciple Study series, called  “Invitation to the New Testament”. Explore the writings of the New Testament using the story of Jesus as the starting point. Please sign-up on the bulletin board if you plan to attend.
